Pauline Hanson reaffirms opposition to Sydney Mardi Gras

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has reiterated her opposition to the Sydney Mardi Gras, echoing comments she made in 1996. While Hanson acknowledged the economic benefits of the pride parade and stated that the legalization of same-sex marriage in Australia is “acceptable,” she maintained that she does not support the festival and believes personal sexuality should be kept “behind closed doors.”

These remarks come amid internal scrutiny for One Nation following the emergence of a social media video featuring Parminder Singh, a party candidate for Western Australia's upper house in the 2025 election. The video contained anti-gay comments, leading the party to remove Singh from its website. One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce distanced the party from Singh's views, characterizing One Nation as “one of the gayest parties in Australia.” Hanson rejected Singh's views, stating she had not heard such sentiments from him during his candidacy.
