Paulo Betti Urges Streaming Regulation at Brazil's Bonito CineSur

At the closing ceremony of the Bonito CineSur film festival in Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul, actor Paulo Betti called for the regulation of streaming platforms in Brazil. He argued that creators must receive remuneration for the use of their works and that streaming services should contribute to the national audiovisual industry. Betti referenced a draft law under discussion in the National Congress that would require platforms to pay the Contribuição para o Desenvolvimento da Indústria Cinematográfica Nacional (Condecine), establish quotas for Brazilian content on video‑on‑demand services, and promote independent productions. He also said cultural protection should extend beyond cinema to museums, arts and heritage.

The festival also awarded the Paraguayan film “¿Quién Mató a Narciso?” as the best South American feature, highlighting the event’s regional focus.
