Paulo Furtado, former President of the Bahia Court of Justice, dies at 82

Retired judge Paulo Roberto Bastos Furtado has died at the age of 82. A prominent figure in the Brazilian judiciary, Furtado served as the president of the Court of Justice of Bahia (TJ-BA) from 1992 to 1994.

Throughout his career, Furtado held several significant public roles, including Chief of Staff for the Bahia State Government from 1979 to 1982 and Chief of Staff of the Bahia Secretary of Justice in 1977. He also served as a summoned minister at the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and directed the School of Preparation and Improvement of Magistrates of Bahia (EMAB) during the 1990–1991 biennium.

The Academia de Letras Jurídicas da Bahia, where Furtado was the first holder of chair number 37, has declared one week of official mourning in his honor.
