Paulo Álvaro Marques Cezário arrested in Portugal for Brazilian homicide
Paulo Álvaro Marques Cezário, a man sentenced to 12 years in prison for the 2021 murder of Uéliton Lima de Oliveira, has been arrested in Lisbon, Portugal. The arrest was the result of an international operation involving Interpol, following a Red Notice issued after his conviction became final in August 2026.
Cezário, who had been a fugitive for three years, appeared before the Lisbon Court of Appeal where he formally consented to his extradition to Brazil. Under the Extradition Convention of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), authorities must complete the removal process by October 16, 2026.
The murder occurred in the Colina neighborhood of Barra de São Francisco, Espírito Santo, and was reportedly motivated by disputes over drug trafficking control. Brazilian judicial authorities are currently coordinating with the Espírito Santo Secretariat of Justice to secure a prison placement for Cezário upon his return.
