Paulo Macedo and Maria João Abreu win Trail da Camacha race

Portuguese runners Paulo Macedo of Associação Desportiva e Recreativa do Jardim da Serra and Maria João Abreu of Clube Desportivo e Cultural do Porto Moniz claimed victory in the main 26‑kilometre Trail da Camacha held on Sunday. Macedo finished in 2:17:08, ahead of Humberto Gomez (2:18:48) and Hugo Costa (2:20:45). Abreu recorded a time of 3:00:48, followed by Alice Sousa (3:06:09) and Isabel Gonçalves (3:18:58).

The event also featured a 15‑kilometre race won by Vítor Faria (men) and Joana Soares (women), and a youth category where Margarida Vieira and Maria D. Freitas tied for first in the women's division. Dozens of athletes from clubs across Madeira competed on a mountainous course that combined competition with endurance.

The Trail da Camacha continues to attract regional participants and showcases the island’s rugged terrain as a venue for mountain running.
