Paulo Sérgio Nogueira receives sentence reduction and Army work authorization
Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has ordered an 86-day reduction in the prison sentence of General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, the former Defense Minister under Jair Bolsonaro. Nogueira was previously sentenced to 19 years in prison for his involvement in a coup attempt, including charges of attempting the violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d'état, and participating in an armed criminal organization.
The sentence reduction follows documentation provided by the Planalto Military Command (CMP) verifying Nogueira’s participation in work, study, and reading activities. The 86-day credit consists of 32 days for work performed between January and June, 24 days for the reading of six books, and 30 days for completing a 360-hour course in Hospital Administration, Legislation, and Auditing.
Additionally, Moraes authorized Nogueira to perform administrative duties within the Brazilian Army. The decision includes an approved plan from the CMP allowing the general to monitor and oversee the budgetary and financial management of military health organizations.
