New Jersey couple charged with murder in death of 9-year-old daughter

A New Jersey couple, India Miller, 27, and Sean D. Scott, 45, face first-degree murder charges following the death of their 9-year-old daughter in Paulsboro. Prosecutors allege the pair fabricated a story claiming the child was struck by a vehicle while walking a dog, but surveillance footage showed no vehicle traffic in the area at the time of the reported incident.

Medical staff and investigators discovered injuries inconsistent with a car accident, including facial trauma, multiple broken ribs, a ruptured colon, and extensive bruising. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries. Investigators also noted that some injuries appeared to be in the healing phase, suggesting prolonged abuse. Authorities reported finding blood on cleaning supplies and in a bathroom tub, which the couple allegedly attempted to clean.

In addition to murder and accomplice charges, Miller and Scott face counts of child endangerment, hindering prosecution, and making a fictitious report. They are currently being held at the Salem County Jail. Investigators are also probing claims of sexual abuse involving the child.
