The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has authorized the construction of the Los Guájares reversible hydroelectric plant in the province of Granada. The project, promoted by Villar Mir through Hidroeléctrica Los Guájares, involves an estimated investment of approximately 400 million euros.

The facility will feature a turbine capacity of 356.93 MW and a pumping capacity of 363.99 MW, with an energy storage capacity of 1.47 GWh. The infrastructure includes a 220 kV evacuation line connecting the Los Guájares substation to the Mizán substation. The project also incorporates three associated wind farms.

To support the construction, the project received 23 million euros in funding from the state incentive program for innovative energy storage technologies via the Plan for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience.
