Pavel Nový reflects on recovery from life-threatening West Nile fever
Czech actor Pavel Nový, celebrating his 78th birthday, has shared details regarding a life-threatening health crisis he faced in 2007. While vacationing in Cyprus, Nový was bitten by a mosquito carrying West Nile fever, which resulted in a deep coma and the failure of vital bodily functions.
Following the illness, the actor underwent an intensive period of rehabilitation, including five months at a center in Kladruby, where he had to relearn how to walk. Although the illness led to a period of disability pension before he transitioned to old-age pension, Nový has since returned to active life and continues to perform at Studio Ypsilon.
Nový maintains an active lifestyle through cycling, swimming, and cold water immersion. He credits his recovery to his willpower and the support of his family, including his wife of nearly sixty years.
