Pavia prosecutors investigate potential homicide in Garlasco death case

The Pavia prosecutor's office has opened a new investigation into the 2010 death of Giovanni Ferri, an 88-year-old mechanic found dead in Garlasco, Italy. While originally treated as a suicide, authorities are now considering the possibility of voluntary homicide.

The investigation follows a formal complaint filed in September by Ferri's widow. Legal representatives, supported by medical, genetic, and criminological experts, have requested DNA analysis on a knife found in the victim's hand and on two blood-stained handkerchiefs found near his head.

Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been struck in the throat from behind while standing, and a wound to his left wrist may indicate a defensive struggle. Discrepancies in the original case include the fact that the knife found with Ferri did not match those in his home, and the location where he was discovered was not on his usual route home.
