Pavia renames sports hall to honor 1928 Olympic gymnasts

The via Treves sports hall in Pavia has been officially named after the ‘Piccole Pavesi’ (Little Pavese) to honor the twelve young gymnasts from the Società Ginnastica Pavese who won a historic silver medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. This achievement marked the first Olympic silver medal won by Italian women in gymnastics.

The gymnasts, aged between 11 and 17, were coached by Gino Grevi and Antonio Chiappero. The dedication ceremony included local officials and representatives from the Pavia CONI and the Società Ginnastica Pavese. The initiative aims to bridge the city's sporting history with its future, emphasizing accessibility for athletes with disabilities.

To commemorate the event, a theatrical performance titled ‘Quella mattina d’estate’ was scheduled to recount the story of the athletes' success in Amsterdam.
