Pavia to implement 30 km/h speed limits in most city streets
The city administration of Pavia has introduced a new mobility project titled ‘Pavia Città 30’. The plan aims to implement a 30 km/h speed limit across much of the city, beginning with the historic center.
Under the proposal, roads serving as entry and exit points for the city, as well as those connecting different neighborhoods, will maintain a 50 km/h limit. However, certain sections, such as Viale Matteotti near the Castello Visconteo, will feature slightly narrowed lanes to encourage slower driving. The city has been divided into 32 zones designated for the 30 km/h limit, with classifications based on the proximity to schools, residences, and social hubs.
Vice Mayor Alice Moggi stated that the plan is based on technical parameters to improve safety, air quality, and noise reduction. The new speed limits are expected to be adopted by the beginning of 2027.
