Pavlo Sadokha, Ukrainian diaspora leader, dies in Portugal

Pavlo Sadokha, a prominent leader of the Ukrainian diaspora in Portugal and Vice President of the World Congress of Ukrainians, has died suddenly at the age of 56. His death occurred on Sunday, September 13, in a hotel in Quarteira.

The Portuguese Public Ministry has opened an inquiry to investigate the circumstances of his death and determine if there are any indications of criminal activity or third-party involvement.

Sadokha was a well-known activist who organized protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and coordinated aid for Ukrainian refugees. He was also known for highlighting security concerns regarding Russian intelligence attempts to access refugee data.

His death has drawn political reaction in Portugal. The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) voted against a motion of condolence in the Lisbon Municipal Assembly, citing his historical ties to far-right groups and his expressed sympathies for Stepan Bandera.
