Greece marks 13th anniversary of Pavlos Fyssas assassination

Greece is preparing for various anti-fascist commemorations on September 18, marking 13 years since the assassination of anti-fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas by members of the Golden Dawn criminal organization.

Organized events include rallies and marches in Patras, Chania, Arta, and Keratsini. A major cultural and political event will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels, featuring a presentation of the theatrical monologue ‘18/9’ starring Dora Chrysikou. This initiative, led by MEP Nikolas Farantouris, aims to send a message of vigilance against the resurgence of far-right movements in Europe.

The commemorations coincide with the release of Ilias Kasidiaris from prison, a convicted leader of the Golden Dawn organization. His release has sparked concerns regarding the potential reorganization of neo-Nazi political spaces in Greece, despite legal restrictions on his ability to hold office until 2033.
