Pavlos Giannakopoulos commemorated by Panathinaikos BC

Panathinaikos BC is commemorating the birth of its iconic leader, Pavlos Giannakopoulos, who was born on August 20, 1929. The club has designated August 20 as a permanent day of remembrance for him.

Giannakopoulos, a successful businessman who co-founded the pharmaceutical company VIANEX in 1960, is credited with transforming Panathinaikos into a global basketball powerhouse. After taking leadership of the basketball department in 1987, he utilized significant investments to attract elite players and coaches, leading the team to six European championships and numerous domestic titles.

Described as a ‘patriarch’ of the club, his legacy is noted for its profound impact on Greek sports and the lasting influence of the Giannakopoulos family on all departments of the organization.
