Pavlos Marinakis calls for AI content labeling and user identification
At the Cyber Security Forum 2026, Greek Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis emphasized the necessity of identifying internet users and implementing mandatory labeling for all content generated by Artificial Intelligence. He stated that “rules are an element of democracy” and that AI-produced material must carry specific markings.
Addressing the issue of misinformation, Marinakis noted that it poses a threat not only to political discourse but also to national interests. To combat this, he highlighted the expansion of the “Cultivating Critical Readers” initiative to all schools. This program, funded by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, involves professors and journalists working with high school students to teach news verification and critical thinking skills.
Marinakis also discussed the impact of toxic public dialogue and “tele-trials” on citizen engagement, suggesting that while sensationalism may drive numbers, it alienates the public from politics and informed news.
