Pavlos Marinakis announces Greek economic and social measures at DEPO

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis has outlined a series of economic and social measures following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s speech at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (DEPO). The proposed policies focus on increasing disposable income through permanent structural changes rather than temporary subsidies.

Key economic measures include a gradual increase of the minimum wage to 1,000 euros by 2028 and a 30% reduction in wholesale electricity prices by 2029. For families, the government plans to introduce an investment account for newborns where the state doubles annual deposits, and income tax will be zeroed for households with three children earning up to 20,000 euros.

Other initiatives include a 2 billion euro ‘My Home III’ program, increased annual support for pensioners over 65, and tax exemptions for farmers earning up to 20,000 euros. For businesses, the government aims to reduce corporate taxes and phase out professional fees. Marinakis emphasized that the strategy seeks to foster a partnership between the state and the private sector to drive growth, investment, and exports while supporting ‘consistent’ citizens who meet their financial obligations.
