Pavlos Marinakis targets New Democracy majority in 2027 elections
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis has stated that securing a parliamentary majority is the sole electoral goal for the New Democracy party in the 2027 national elections. In several interviews, Marinakis emphasized that the party aims to bridge the current 5% to 7% gap from a majority by demonstrating effective governance and a reliable program for the next four-year term.
Addressing economic concerns, Marinakis acknowledged the pressure of inflation and housing costs on households. He noted that the government has maintained fiscal reserves to implement additional support measures against the energy crisis and cost-of-living increases, while calling for greater European flexibility regarding state spending limits.
On the geopolitical front, Marinakis discussed Greece's role as a regional stabilizer and its strengthening ties with the United States. He also addressed Greek-Turkish relations, asserting that Athens remains committed to dialogue without compromising national positions. Additionally, he touched upon the demographic crisis as a significant long-term challenge for the country.
