Pavlos Melas commemorated in Kifisia
The Municipality of Kifisia and the Holy Metropolis of Kifisia, Amarousio, Oropos, and Marathon held a memorial service to honor Pavlos Melas, a prominent figure of the Macedonian Struggle. The commemoration took place on October 11, 2026, featuring an Orthros and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy led by Metropolitan Kyrillos.
Melas, an artillery officer who died on October 13, 1904, is regarded as a hero in Greece for his role in the liberation of Macedonia. The event highlighted the historical connection between Melas and Kifisia, as his family resided in a local estate on Tatoiou Street from 1895. It was from this residence that he departed for Macedonia in 1904 to engage in active operations.
During the service, Metropolitan Kyrillos delivered a sermon based on the Parable of the Sower, emphasizing the importance of internalizing spiritual teachings rather than merely hearing them.
