Panathinaikos forward Pavlos Pantelidis to miss up to six months after surgery

Pavlos Pantelidis, the 24‑year‑old forward of Greek club Panathinaikos, suffered a severe leg injury during a pre‑season friendly against Athens Kallithea on 31 July. Medical scans revealed a compound patella fracture, rupture of the lower patellofemoral ligament and rupture of the deltoid ligament.

The injury was treated surgically in the early hours of 1 August. The operation was led by the club’s chief medical officer Dr Dionysis Chissa, assisted by team doctor Chari Lalo, and was reported as successful. Recovery estimates vary across club statements, ranging from four to six months to six‑seven months before Pantelidis can return to training, with a target of early 2027 for full match fitness.

Because of his prolonged absence, Panathinaikos has identified the acquisition of a new striker as a transfer priority, seeking to fill the attacking gap left by Pantelidis.
