Pavlos Polakis discusses SYRIZA leadership and progressive cooperation
Pavlos Polakis, head of strategic planning for SYRIZA, has characterized the party's current collective leadership as a necessary but temporary measure. In an interview, he stated that the model is intended to stabilize the party, restore unity, and reconnect with society, but emphasized that a "strong and solid leadership" must eventually be elected when the political timing is appropriate.
Polakis noted that the party is undergoing organizational restructuring and seeing the return of members who had previously distanced themselves. Regarding potential collaborations among progressive forces, he argued that such partnerships must be built on a "clear and binding programmatic framework" rather than mere arithmetic unity or electoral convenience.
Reflecting on his connection to Rena Dourou and Nikos Pappas, Polakis described an "invisible thread" linking them from the 2015-2019 administration to the present. He expressed a shared commitment to keeping SYRIZA functional and effective to prevent an irreparable defeat for the Greek Left.
