Paweł Kukiz’s foundation faces asset seizure and blocked accounts
The Potrafisz Polsko! Foundation, associated with Paweł Kukiz, is facing financial difficulties following a tax enforcement action that blocked its accounts and seized vehicles. The issue stems from a grant of nearly 4.3 million PLN provided by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister during Mateusz Morawiecki’s administration for the ‘Direct Democracy Institute’ project.
The project, intended to promote referendums and democratic values through an online voting platform, utilized approximately 2.97 million PLN. While the foundation returned roughly 1.32 million PLN of the unused funds to the state budget in January 2024, the Chancellery subsequently demanded additional refunds.
Following a decision by the Chancellery, the matter was referred to the tax office for enforcement. The foundation’s legal representative, Michał Kardasz, noted that because the initial decision was issued by an entity with ministerial competence, there was no immediate right of appeal to a higher authority. The foundation has since appealed the decision to the Voivodeship Administrative Court in Warsaw. Although the foundation’s operations are not formally suspended, the seizure of assets and funds poses a significant threat to its continued functioning.
