Paweł Pawlikowski to premiere ‘Fatherland’ in Sofia

Polish-British director Paweł Pawlikowski is arriving in Sofia for the official premiere of his new film, ‘Fatherland’ (Otechestvo), as part of the 12th CineLibri film-literary festival. The premiere is scheduled for November 3, following the festival's feature and documentary film awards ceremony.

Pawlikowski, who recently received a directing award at the Cannes Film Festival, will be honored at the event for his exceptional contribution to cinema. His biographical drama, described by critics as an ‘ascetic masterpiece,’ is considered a serious contender for the Oscars. The film explores the relationship between Nobel laureate Thomas Mann and his daughter, Erika, during a 1949 journey through Germany. The narrative examines themes of national identity, political ideology, and the psychological consequences of war, focusing on the complex bond between parent and child.

The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov.
