Paweł Pawlikowski’s ‘Fatherland’ to release in Italy in October 2026

The film ‘Fatherland’, directed by Paweł Pawlikowski, is set to be released in Italian cinemas on October 23, 2026. Pawlikowski, who received the Best Director award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, will also participate in a masterclass at the 21st Rome Film Fest as part of the ‘Best Of’ section.

A historical drama set during the Cold War, the film follows Nobel Laureate Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika Mann (Sandra Hüller) on a road trip through a divided Germany. After fleeing Nazi Germany in 1933, Mann returns to Allied-occupied territory in 1949 to receive the Goethe Prize. The narrative explores the tensions of a nation split between Western and Soviet influences, as the Manns navigate encounters with both admirers and former Nazi collaborators.
