Paweł Pawlikowski’s ‘Ojczyzna’ selected as Poland’s Oscar candidate

Paweł Pawlikowski’s film ‘Ojczyzna’ has been selected as Poland’s official candidate for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The decision was made unanimously by a nine-member commission appointed by the Polish Film Institute.

Set in 1949, the film follows German Nobel laureate Thomas Mann and his relationships with his children, Erik and Klaus. The production is an international co-production involving Poland, Germany, Italy, and France. It has already garnered international recognition, including a Best Director award for Pawlikowski at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film also holds regional significance for Katowice and the Silesian Voivodeship, as the Silesia Film institution participated in its production and parts of the film were shot in the Silesian region with support from the Silesian Film Fund.
