Payal Kapadia film to be screened at Filmoteca d’Estiu
The Filmoteca d’Estiu will screen ‘All We Imagine as Light’ (2025) on August 17 and 18 at 22:30. Written and directed by Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia, the film is part of the ‘Top crítica i festivals 2025’ cycle, which showcases critically acclaimed titles from the past year.
Kapadia’s debut fiction feature made history as the first Indian production in three decades to compete in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix of the Jury. Set in the city of Mumbai and filmed in Hindi and Malayalam, the film provides a poetic portrait of female friendship, desire, and the search for freedom in contemporary India.
The narrative follows three women navigating a patriarchal society: Prabha, a nurse experiencing emotional upheaval after receiving a gift from her ex-husband in Germany; Anu, who seeks privacy to be with her Muslim partner; and Parvaty, a widowed cook facing eviction due to real estate developers. The screenings are part of a program that includes archival footage of Valencian rivers.
