Germany sees rising demand for cashless payment options

Recent surveys indicate a growing preference for cashless payment methods in Germany. According to a YouGov poll, a significant majority of respondents expressed a desire for more digital payment options in daily life. Specifically, 72% of participants want to pay without cash in restaurants, 71% in supermarkets, and 66% in retail settings. Demand for cashless options has also been noted for parking garages, airports, and train stations.

Complementary data from a GfK study commissioned by Mastercard shows that debit cards are becoming a universal payment tool in Germany. Approximately three out of four Germans now use debit cards, with usage being particularly high among Generation Z, where 88% of 18-to-29-year-olds rely on this payment type. The study highlights that 89% of debit card users find the method easy, fast, and convenient for everyday transactions.
