Payotte finds unexpected success with magnetic pétanque espadrilles
Payotte, a company based in Perpignan, France, has seen unexpected commercial success with its magnetic espadrilles designed for pétanque players. The footwear features a magnet on the side to pick up metal boules without bending down, as well as a small pocket for the cochonnet.
Founder Olivier Gelly stated that the project began as a joke among friends. However, the brand has sold 5,000 pairs in a single week, with 40% of sales originating from the United States. The shoes are priced at 69.90 euros. Following this success, Gelly is planning future products, including footwear with a built-in bottle opener.
