PayPal in talks for sale to Stripe and Advent International
PayPal Holdings, Inc. is in negotiations to be acquired by a group consisting of Stripe and the private equity firm Advent International. The discussions follow a rejected proposal from July that valued the payments giant at approximately $53 billion, based on an offer of $60.50 per share.
While PayPal initially dismissed the valuation as insufficient, negotiations regarding a higher purchase price are ongoing. If an agreement is reached, the deal would involve Stripe and Advent International taking equal stakes in the combined company without breaking up PayPal’s existing business operations.
A potential merger between these entities would create a massive digital payments platform but would likely face significant antitrust scrutiny from regulators in the United States and Europe.
