Pays de la Loire Aléop transport network faces expansion and legal challenge

The Aléop transport network in the Pays de la Loire region is undergoing significant changes, leading to both service expansions and legal challenges. The regional government has launched five new ‘Car Express’ lines designed to provide faster, direct routes for commuters, aiming to offer a competitive alternative to private car use by reducing travel times.

However, recent modifications to the on-demand transport (TAD) service have sparked controversy. Changes implemented in Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, and Mayenne include restricted operating hours, a shift from door-to-door service to fixed stops, and an increase in the age requirement for home pickups from 70 to 75 years.

In response, opposition members from the ‘L’Écologie ensemble’ group and local deputies have referred the matter to the Défenseur des droits. They argue that the reduced service may constitute discrimination based on health status or disability by effectively excluding certain vulnerable populations.
