Pays Plat First Nation expands reserve lands as Canada targets denialism

The Pays Plat First Nation has successfully added 4,203 acres to its reserve lands through the Additions to Reserve process. This milestone completes the implementation of a 2018 agreement between Canada, Ontario, and the Pays Plat First Nation. Chief David Mushquash stated the expansion is expected to support housing growth and economic development, marking the culmination of 36 years of discussions.

Separately, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Rebecca Alty addressed the issue of residential school denialism. She noted that misinformation regarding the history and lasting impacts of residential schools continues to undermine reconciliation efforts. To combat this, the Canadian government is utilizing a $5 million investment from the 2024 budget to fund a national awareness campaign aimed at countering disinformation and promoting accurate historical knowledge.
