Paysandú football tournament raises funds for child's medical treatment

A charity football tournament held at the Paysandú Fútbol Club complex successfully raised funds for Thiago Acosta, a six-year-old boy requiring specialized medical treatment abroad. Thiago is currently being evaluated at the Hospital Sirio-Libanés in São Paulo, Brazil, for a rare disease that has not yet been diagnosed in Uruguay, with potential further studies planned for the United States.

The event featured six senior +35 teams, including former professional players and amateurs. The team ‘Los Amigos de Elías’ won the tournament. Organizers, including Elías Figueroa, reported that public turnout and community support exceeded expectations. The event was attended by various local authorities, including Mayor Nicolás Olivera and Senator Andrés Ojeda.
