Paysandú hosts national meeting for specialized police dogs

The II National Meeting of Detector and Working Dogs took place at the Paysandú Police Park, bringing together 24 specialized canines and their handlers from across Uruguay. Organized jointly by the Paysandú Police Headquarters and the company Servican, the event focused on exchanging knowledge, methodologies, and experiences regarding the use of trained animals in security operations.

Participants included canine teams from various police departments, including Colonia, Tacuarembó, Rivera, Soriano, Río Negro, Treinta y Tres, Salto, Maldonado, and Paysandú. The meeting also involved representatives from the Highway Police, the National Institute of Rehabilitation, the Uruguayan Air Force, and the 9th Infantry Battalion of the National Army.

Training and discussions covered several specialized areas, such as the detection of illicit substances and explosives, the search for missing persons and human remains, and patrolling duties. The initiative aimed to unify criteria and share best practices to professionalize the operational use of dogs in prevention, investigation, and specialized response tasks.
