Paystack launches onsite Shopify checkout in South Africa
Paystack has launched an onsite card checkout feature for Shopify merchants in South Africa. This update allows customers to complete payments within the existing Shopify flow, eliminating the need for redirects to external pages. Early tests by local agencies have reported conversion increases of up to 15%. Additionally, Paystack has integrated its physical terminal devices with Shopify accounts to synchronize in-store transactions with online back-end systems.
In broader regional news, African startup funding has surpassed the $2 billion mark for 2026. While this milestone was reached later than in previous years, significant deals in June and August contributed to the total. However, the number of companies raising $100,000 or more has decreased by 19 percent compared to the same period last year.
Furthermore, the International Trade Centre and Access Africa have partnered to enhance access to finance, markets, and skills training for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The initiative will pilot in Ghana and eventually span 14 African countries, including Angola, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa.
