PayU launches RBI-compliant accessible payments for visually impaired users

PayU has launched an accessibility-focused payments checkout designed specifically for blind and visually impaired users in India. This initiative makes PayU the first payment gateway in the country to comply with the Reserve Bank of India’s October 2024 accessibility mandate (BIS IS 17802).

The new checkout features full-screen-reader optimization, allowing users to navigate the entire transaction process—from selecting payment methods like UPI or net banking to confirming amounts—via voice commands. To support diverse needs, the platform includes adaptive user profiles where individuals can customize cursor size and button dimensions, as well as visual modes such as high contrast, grayscale, and color inversion.

Additionally, the interface allows for text resizing up to 200% without compromising content visibility. The launch aims to promote financial inclusion by enabling users with visual or cognitive accessibility needs to participate in the digital economy independently.
