Cosmote Payments expands Payzy reach as Strait of Hormuz shipping risks rise
Cosmote Payments reported significant growth for its fintech solution, Payzy, ending 2025 with a total customer base of 452,331 across Greece and Germany, a 7.2% increase from the previous year. The German market saw particularly strong momentum, with users increasing by approximately 25% to 26,094. The company's turnover rose to 30.59 million euros in 2025, up from 26 million euros in 2024.
Separately, maritime shipping concerns are rising due to military escalations between the United States and Iran. Fears of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz have increased uncertainty for ship owners following attacks on Iranian targets and recent strikes on tankers. Brent crude oil prices moved above $95 per barrel as markets react to supply risks. Data from Kpler indicates a sharp decline in vessel traffic through the Strait, with only four commercial ships passing through on a recent Tuesday, compared to a ten-day average of approximately 13 vessels.
