New political parties Somos and PAZ gain recognition in Mexico
The political landscape in Mexico is expanding as the new national parties Somos and PAZ receive official accreditation in several states. In Baja California, the State Electoral Institute (IEEBC) unanimously approved the accreditation of both parties, allowing them to participate in local elections and triggering a redistribution of public financing for the 2026 fiscal year.
In Puebla, the State Electoral Institute (IEE) also approved the registration of Somos, enabling it to compete in the 2027 elections. Despite objections from representatives of Morena, PRI, and Movimiento Ciudadano regarding the legal certainty of the documentation, the council determined there were sufficient elements to grant accreditation. Somos is estimated to receive up to 1.85 million pesos in public prerogatives for the remainder of 2026.
In Jalisco, the IEPC confirmed that both Somos and PAZ are entitled to public funding for the 2026-2027 electoral process. Meanwhile, in San Luis Potosí, the Ceepac has initiated a new procedure to review PAZ's local registration following a court ruling that had previously revoked its status. The party has appealed to federal electoral justice to resolve the dispute.
