Pazin Memorial symposium celebrates Istrian history and railway anniversary

The 53rd edition of the ‘Pazin Memorial’ scientific symposium was held at the Spomen dom in Pazin. Organized by the Čakavski sabor Chair for the History of Istria and the State Archives in Pazin, the event focused on two primary themes: the 150th anniversary of the Istrian railway and the past and present of Central Istria.

For over half a century, the symposium has served as a gathering point for historians, archivists, archaeologists, and other researchers dedicated to studying Istrian history. Josip Šiklić, president of the Čakavski sabor Chair, emphasized the event's role in connecting scientific institutions and its importance in understanding the present through the study of the past.

Mirela Mrak Kliman, director of the State Archives in Pazin, noted that archival materials provide the essential foundation for research into the social and cultural processes that shaped the region. The event included contributions from various academics, including Dr. Alida Perkov, who discussed the transport transformation of Kanfanar.
