Spain: Pazo de Meirás declared site of memory as Ceuta faces migration crisis
Spain is seeing significant developments regarding historical memory and regional political stability. The Official State Gazette (BOE) has officially declared the Pazo de Meirás in Sada, A Coruña, as a site of democratic memory. The site is recognized for its historical links to writer Emilia Pardo Bazán and its role as a symbol of power during the Franco dictatorship, having been acquired through coercive means during the Civil War.
In Ceuta, political tensions are rising due to a migration crisis. Vox has demanded that the People's Party (PP) form a coalition government to address the situation, accusing President Juan Jesús Vivas of failing to manage the influx of migrants. Vivas has met with neighborhood associations to establish a working group to monitor local impact and has called for new legislation to allow for more expedited deportations and increased Frontex presence at the border.
