PBNU and Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs partner on digital initiatives

The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs have announced a strategic collaboration to modernize Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) through digital transformation and adaptive learning programs.

The partnership focuses on several key initiatives, including the ‘Adaptive and Independent Pesantren’ program, ‘Santri 5.0’, and ‘Digital Da'wah’. These programs aim to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and digital media into religious education to ensure students remain relevant in a technological era. Additionally, the ‘Santri 5.0’ initiative seeks to equip students with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills alongside practical vocational training such as farming and livestock management.

Separately, PBNU leadership for the 2026–2031 term, represented by Katib Aam Prof. Muhammad Nuh, outlined a roadmap to strengthen the organization at the grassroots level. The leadership plans to hold a series of national meetings, including the National Deliberation (Munas) and National Working Meeting (Rakernas), to solidify organizational structure. The strategy emphasizes good governance, grassroots empowerment, and engaging digital natives to ensure the organization’s impact is felt widely as it enters its second century.
