PBSI tests new mixed doubles pairings for Olympic qualification

The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is testing several new mixed doubles pairings to identify the most effective combinations for Olympic qualification. Head coach Nova Widianto stated that the goal is to find a format that demonstrates strong chemistry, communication, and consistent playing patterns.

Three specific pairings are currently being evaluated: Bagas Maulana and Apriyani Rahayu, Dejan Ferdinansyah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, and M. Nawaf Khoiriyansyah and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil. The coaching staff will assess these pairs through various tournaments rather than relying solely on match results.

Bagas Maulana and Apriyani Rahayu have noted the challenges of transitioning from their previous specialties in men’s and women’s doubles to the mixed doubles sector. They emphasized the need for adaptation regarding court positioning and communication. The pair is scheduled to be tested at the Indonesia International Challenge 2026 in Surabaya from September 22 to 27.
