PC gaming platforms face scrutiny over service quality and game parity
Digital PC gaming platforms are facing scrutiny regarding service quality and security. While major storefronts like Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, and itch.io are recognized as trustworthy sources for downloading games without hidden costs or bundled software, issues have been identified regarding product parity.
A user-maintained catalog has identified significant disparities in the GOG.com library compared to other digital storefronts. The catalog reports that 1,140 games on GOG are affected by a total of 1,531 issues. These discrepancies include missing updates, missing languages, and missing soundtracks. Other noted problems include missing free and paid DLC, as well as missing features, which critics argue results in GOG customers receiving an inferior product compared to those using other platforms.
