Roberto Prieto Filho, PCC leader, arrested in Bolivia
Roberto Prieto Filho, known as Betinho da Baixada and identified as a leader of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal faction, has been arrested in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. The operation was conducted by Bolivian Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn) with support from the Brazilian Federal Police and the Civil Police of São Paulo.
Prieto had been a fugitive since January 2022, following a prison escape in Guarujá, where armed men raided a facility to liberate him. During his time as a fugitive, he was sentenced in absentia to over 20 years in prison for drug trafficking, association for drug trafficking, and money laundering. Authorities also noted that a false death certificate was previously presented to the courts to hide his status as a fugitive.
Following his capture, Prieto was transferred to Brazil under heavy police escort and is currently held at the Pinheiros Detention Center in São Paulo. His accomplice, Pablo Ribeiro Lopes Santos, was also involved in the criminal activities and received a sentence of over four years for money laundering.
