PCP leader warns Socialist Party over State Budget

During the 50th anniversary of the Festa do Avante!, Paulo Raimundo, Secretary-General of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), criticized the Socialist Party (PS) regarding the upcoming State Budget. Raimundo argued that if the PS facilitates the budget, it would be complicit with right-wing policies and provide more space for the government and parties like Chega and IL to increase political pressure.

Raimundo further stated that supporting the budget would make the PS responsible for the dismantling of the National Health Service, attacks on public education, real estate speculation, and cuts to wages and social security. He characterized the current government's policy as a “disaster” that warrants censure.

Separately, discussions regarding the tax status of the event surfaced. While claims circulated that the PCP receives unique tax privileges for the festival, legal regulations specify that all Portuguese political parties are exempt from Municipal Property Tax (IMI) on properties used for political activity and from VAT on goods and services used to disseminate their political message or identity.
