Pécs celebrates 10th Zsolnay Light Festival honoring Victor Vasarely

The 10th Zsolnay Light Festival opened on July 2 in Pécs, Hungary, marking the anniversary of the birth of op‑art pioneer Victor Vasarely. The four‑day event spans 35 city locations, including outdoor light installations, interactive works, a video‑mapping competition on the cathedral façade, and the "Percepciós Terek – Hommage à Vasarely by Light" exhibition at the m21 Gallery. Organisers report more than 100,000 visitors and participation from international artists from Italy, China, the United States, Ireland and other countries. City officials, including Deputy Mayor Zag Gábor, highlighted the festival’s role in connecting people across age, language and nationality. Hummel Márk, director of the Zsolnay Heritage Management nonprofit, said the festival is “the most spectacular ever” and a product of collective effort between the city, cultural institutions and local businesses.

The programme combines monumental light paintings, immersive audiovisual spaces, performances by circus and musical groups, and family‑friendly workshops, reinforcing Pécs’s reputation as a hub for culture and creative exchange.
