Pécs court sentences man to 17 years for hammer murder
The Pécs Appellate Court has issued a final sentence of 17 years in prison to a man who murdered a homeless person in the summer of 2023. The defendant had reportedly become isolated and obsessed with a serial killer, even attempting to mimic the killer's appearance.
According to the Pécs Prosecutor's Office, the man lured the victim to his apartment with food before attacking him from behind with a hammer. After the victim fell, the defendant continued to strike him and subsequently stabbed him in the chest three times. While the defendant's defense suggested mental instability, the Pécs Court determined he was not in a state of pathological mental illness that would limit his ability to understand the consequences of his actions at the time of the crime.
