Hungary's Summer Festivals Light Up Pécs and Budapest

From July 2‑5, Pécs hosts the tenth Zsolnay Light Festival, transforming the city centre with free light installations, street‑art performances and video‑mapping shows on the Cathedral façade. Visitors can attend without charge, or purchase a four‑day MAX pass (5,000 HUF) for access to closed venues, as well as optional Panorama (4,000 HUF), VIP (25,000 HUF) and Supporter tickets. The programme runs nightly from 21:30, with recommended visits on the quieter Thursday and Sunday. Public transport is encouraged, and several free parking sites are available. A Festify app provides real‑time updates and navigation.

Budapest’s July cultural calendar features a wide array of free and ticketed events: a Repair Cafe fashion‑upcycling workshop on the lower Danube quay, live FIFA World Cup screenings at Fröccsterasz, the Borszerda series with exhibitions and concerts at the Hungarian National Gallery, the Tér‑Zene free concerts on Kossuth Square, nightly music at Ferenc tér, swing performances on the MITZI terrace, free concerts at Bakáts Péntek, and a museum cooling programme for schoolchildren at the Szépművészeti Múzeum. Together, these activities aim to keep the city vibrant despite the heat.
