Pécs municipal accountability process may see renewed momentum

The accountability process regarding municipal companies and institutions in Pécs may gain new momentum. Dr. Imre Bodnár, leader of the expert team conducting the audit, suggests that changes in the functioning of the judiciary and investigative authorities could allow previously stalled or terminated cases to proceed, provided they have not reached the statute of limitations.

The audit, which began in 2020 following a change in local leadership, has already led to numerous reports and criminal proceedings. Notable developments include a suspended sentence in the Zsolnay Tao case and a 20.5 million forint asset forfeiture against Aktor Kft. Additionally, a new national office has been established to recover public assets that were unlawfully diverted, aligning with the objectives of the Pécs investigations.
