Pécs National Casino renovation uncertain after property transfer
The future of the former National Casino building in Pécs has become uncertain following the dissolution of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC). The property, which was intended to be transformed into a new talent development and educational center, was transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Investment on September 1.
Construction on the site has already been underway for approximately one year. The project was awarded to Fejér-B. Á. L. Zrt., a company owned by the Mészáros family, with ZÁÉV Építőipari Zrt. and Zala Elektro Szerelő és Szolgáltató Kft. serving as subcontractors. The investment was valued at approximately 9 billion forints.
The Ministry of Transport and Investment stated that it is currently reviewing the property's documentation, related contracts, and the technical content of the investment. A decision regarding the future of the project will be made following this review. Meanwhile, local residents have reported issues including noise, dust, traffic difficulties, and cracks appearing in nearby buildings due to the construction activities.
