PDCI-RDA leadership contested in Ivorian court

The Court of First Instance in Abidjan is set to deliver a verdict regarding the legitimacy of Tidjane Thiam’s presidency of the PDCI-RDA, Côte d’Ivoire’s primary opposition party. The legal challenge, brought by party members Charles Tchétché Abié and Antoine Siaba, contests the regularity of the extraordinary congress held in May 2025 that re-elected Thiam.

The plaintiffs argue that the internal statutes of the party were not respected during the election process. This legal battle follows previous disputes concerning Thiam’s eligibility, including past inquiries into his French nationality, which he reportedly renounced in 2025.

In a separate but related development involving the party, Aziz Thiam, the PDCI-RDA Vice-President and brother of Tidjane Thiam, has been summoned to appear before the Anti-Terrorism Brigade in Abidjan on October 23, 2026. This summons follows several other legal proceedings targeting PDCI-RDA officials, including Georges Philippe Ezaley and Roger M’Bia, who were recently placed under judicial supervision.
